The Lovie Awards, 25th October 2014
The Lovie Awards would like to honour Edwin Broni-Mensah with The Lovie Emerging Entrepreneur Award for starting the incredible social enterprise GiveMeTap right from his dorm room at university, and for using the Web to help people get access to clean water. The true definition of an entrepreneur who started out with nothing, Broni-Mensah realised the need for such an organisation when – as a broke university student – he couldn't get local businesses to provide him access to free tap water. That realisation led to the successful launch of GiveMeTap, which has already helped over 10,000 people throughout Africa get access to clean water, and has over 500 cafes in its network in 114 cities worldwide. Further, by releasing GiveMeTap as an iOS and Android app to help people in the UK find their nearest free water source, Broni-Mensah demonstrates a unique understanding of the way people are engaging with the world through the location-aware mobile Web. For being an inspiring example of a Web-savvy entrepreneur who created an extraordinary organisation from the ground up, we would love to honour Edwin Broni-Mensah with The Lovie Emerging Entrepreneur Award.
