Popping Up & Tapping Up in Birmingham.

May 01, 2014

A social enterprise with big ambitions to create a world where drinking water is free to all, is appearing in the Bullring this week.

GiveMeTap was started by Edwin-Broni-Mensah in 2010, earning its founder the title ‘Most Outstanding Black Graduate’.

The startup concept sees people who have purchased the distinctive blue steel water bottle to ask for free top-ups from retailers and firms that have signed up to the scheme as suppliers. The initiative then ploughs profits back into clean water projects across Africa. It also saves a lot of waste from landfill.

PopUp Birmingham in the Middle East Mall sees new groups of fledgling retailers every week co-working in the space provided by Hammerson and run and curated by not-for-profit pop-up firm PopUp Britain.

PopUp Britain’s Becky Jones said: “These products are made and sourced by people who are passionate about what they do, their products are not in any high street shops yet, they are new and exciting and unique.

“We hope that by spending time in our shop here in the mighty Bullring, they will learn more about the retail landscape and how to become the independent brands we will begin to see in our towns.”

Positive Outlook Clothing

This interesting firm was founded by Harvey Broadbent in 2012 after receiving his degree in product design from Bournemouth University. It was in doing this degree that he found the availability and passion for the use of sustainable alternatives for materials and processes. He was often told that he had been a positive influence on many peoples’ lives especially during the stressful final years of university and wanted to continue spreading this positivity through the best way he knew how, design.

The goal is to spread positivity to customers through quality products and creative design. All clothing is made to the highest quality using sustainable materials and processes. They are then hand-printed in the UK using chemical-free inks and packed with care using recycled materials.

The TeaShed

The TeaShed is a design-led tea company, born and brewed in Britain. From its base in Newcastle, the TeaShed produces quality whole tea leaves wrapped in silky pyramid bags, which they import from Sri Lanka. The teabags are then wrapped in fun and beautiful packaging – ready to enjoy!
