#ThirstyThursday - Indian private sector controls tap water

February 16, 2012

The United Nations General Assembly presented the Right to Water Resolution in 2010 which was backed by the Indian government. Recent reports however suggest that the government is considering ’withdrawing from its responsibilities of water service delivery’. Essentially, multinational corporations will be using this as an opportunity to determine the access of drinking water. With diminished governmental control, and more private sector authority, researchers predict a negative connotation for the water drinking community, i.e. the entire population of India.
